Community Guidelines
Last updated:
Eckoa works because people feel safe saying something honest in a few words. These guidelines are what keeps it that way. They are part of our Terms of Use.
What we hope to read
Honest, personal, short. A feeling, a memory, a confession, a question back. You do not have to be wise or polite about everything, but you do have to be respectful of other people.
What is not allowed
- Hate and harassment: attacks on people for who they are (race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age and similar), slurs, bullying, intimidation, threats.
- Violence and illegal activity: inciting or praising violence, terrorism or crime, or helping people commit them.
- Sexual content: explicit or pornographic content, sexual solicitation, and any sexual content involving minors, which we report to the authorities.
- Self-harm promotion: encouraging or instructing self-harm, suicide or eating disorders. Talking honestly about your own struggle is different, and you are welcome to; see below.
- Contact details and links: emails, phone numbers, social media handles, addresses, or links, including when written in disguise. Eckoa is anonymous on purpose.
- Private information about others: names, details or accusations about identifiable people.
- Spam and promotion: ads, self-promotion, repeated or irrelevant posts, scams.
- Impersonation and deception: pretending to be someone else, or misleading people in harmful ways.
- Infringement: content you do not have the right to publish.
If you are writing about something painful
Writing about pain, grief, abuse or thoughts of hurting yourself is human, and you are welcome here. Because our automatic checks are cautious, an echo about these topics may sometimes be stopped before it appears. That is not a judgement of you, and we are sorry when it happens.
If you are struggling, please reach out to someone who can help now. You will find numbers by country on our safety and support resources page.
How we enforce these guidelines
Echoes are checked automatically before they appear; people review reports. Depending on the case, we may block or remove an echo, limit what an account can do, or suspend or close the account. Repeated or serious violations lead to stronger actions.
Reporting and appeals
See something that breaks these guidelines? Open the menu on an echo in the app and choose Report. You can also write to wzcortex@gmail.com.
If you think we made a mistake, email wzcortex@gmail.com and tell us what happened. A person will review it.
